The National Art Gallery "Girolamo e Rosaria DeVanna" is considered one of the most important in the region. Since April 18, 2009, the gallery has made its home in the Palazzo Sylos-Calo, a jewel among the Renaissance architecture in Bitonto. Built in the early sixteenth century by Giovanni Alfonso Sylos, the palazzo was intended as a display of the Sylos family’s wealth and nobility. The palazzo stands on the ruins of a church given to Francesco Saverio Sylos.
The works exhibited in the gallery are the result of a generous donation by art collectors, Girolamo and Rosaria DeVanna, after which the museum is named. The collection consist of 229 paintings and 108 drawings, which include masterpieces by Italian, Spanish and French artists. The concerts are performed in one of the larger viewing galleries on the second floor of the Galleria Nazionale di Puglia.
